This aerial photograph of the Monroe County Vietnam Veterans Memorial located at Captain Norman (Rusty)W. Heck Park shows the memorials and displays there. The flagpole near the center right and the black granite pillar w/eagle (lower center) were the original items at the park prior to the M-shaped (living memorial) strawberry granite (center) with the black granite (KIA/MIA) memorial which was dedicated on May 17, 1987. The Huey Gunship on the 25 foot steel pillar (top center) was dedicated on May 18, 1991, while the Cobra Gunship was dedicated August 27, 1994. The Walk-of-Freedom leading from the Kiosk (center right) to the surrounding walkway under the Huey was dedicated on September 17, 1992. The carved "Chained Eagle" on the bottom left keeps us ever mindful the plight of the POW's and MIA's from all wars.
